Research starts with a question.
A fellowship designed to help curious students turn meaningful questions into rigorous research, guided by mentorship, collaboration, and inquiry.
About
A selective fellowship designed to help students move from consuming knowledge to questioning, investigating, and creating it.
Through eight weeks of mentorship, research training, and guided inquiry, fellows build the foundations of independent research while developing their own research project.
What Makes QX Different?
Structured from Start to Finish
Research can feel overwhelming, especially for first-time researchers. QX breaks the journey into clear weekly milestones, ensuring fellows always know what to work on next, from refining a research question to preparing a final presentation.
Mentorship That Goes Beyond Meetings
Every fellow is paired with experienced mentors who provide personalized feedback through 1:1 sessions. Beyond scheduled meetings, mentors remain approachable for guidance throughout the fellowship.
Built for Everyone
Whether you're exploring research for the first time or already have experience, QX is designed to meet you where you are. Fellows receive practical resources, templates, and guidance while still having the flexibility to pursue independent ideas.
An Accountability System That Helps You Finish
Many research projects lose momentum after the initial excitement. Through regular check-ins, milestone tracking, and continuous support from both mentors and the Project Q2 team, fellows stay on track from their first idea to their final project.
From the first question to the final project, every step has a purpose.

I believe talent is everywhere, but opportunities aren't. Working with Project Q2 was my way of helping close that gap and encourage more students to see themselves as future researchers.

I wanted to support this project because I think research can be a great way for high schoolers to build critical thinking and a real sense of understanding. That kind of curiosity and confidence matters even more in places where educational opportunities are limited.

Good research begins with curiosity, but it grows through evidence, questioning, and the courage to challenge what we think we know.

Research rewired my brain to always think and act with a purpose in mind; you ask why and what are the supporting evidence for every decision.

Research should be accessible to everyone, not just those who discover it by chance. I joined Project Q2 to help give high school students early exposure to research and the critical thinking skills that can open doors to future opportunities.

How do the chemicals that leak out of heated consumer plastic bottles affect the way water moves across a fake cell membrane?
“The QX Fellowship program was a transformative research experience that allowed me to turn a real-world curiosity about microplastics into a rigorous, data-driven scientific study. With personalized mentor support and structured guidance, I gained invaluable skills in experimental design, statistical analysis, and scientific writing.”
Hitarth Dangra
To what extent does existing literature suggest that TF-IDF-based email spam filters may exhibit bias against culturally diverse names?
“My experience with QX has been incredibly rewarding. The program gave me the opportunity to explore AI research in a structured and supportive environment while working alongside passionate peers and experienced mentors.”
Maimouna Tougoutcho Coulibaly
How have artificial intelligence techniques been applied to diagnose leishmaniasis, schistosomiasis, and dengue, and what evidence exists regarding their diagnostic performance and deployment feasibility in low-resource settings?
“Participating in the QX Fellowship has been an incredible learning experience. It gave me the opportunity to explore a topic I am passionate about while strengthening my research and scientific writing skills.”
Kavya Savani
Can FDA-approved drugs that target the pathophysiological pathways of β-thalassemia—not solely the HBB mutation itself—be identified as potential therapeutic candidates through integrated network pharmacology and protein–protein interaction (PPI) network analysis?
“The QX Fellowship gave me the opportunity to explore a research question I genuinely cared about while learning how real computational research is conducted.”
Anushka Birari
Does causal evidence from laboratory studies on the NLGN3-ADAM10 and GluN2B/NMDAR neuron-glioma signalling axes align with correlational survival evidence in patient expression data, or do the two forms of evidence diverge?
“The QX Fellowship pushed me to hold my own research to a higher standard than I expected, not just running the analysis, but constantly asking whether my evidence actually supported what I was claiming.”
Jeet Rathi
To what extent do plain-language AI transparency disclosures increase trust among non-technical users in high-stakes domains, and what design characteristics make such explanations most effective?
“My QX experience was delightful! I got assigned to a mentor so professionally experienced in my interested field that he helped me get through almost all of my obstacles.”
Frequently Asked Questions
Is prior research experience required?
No. The fellowship is designed to support both beginners and motivated learners with limited research experience.
Is this a publication program?
No. QX is a research training fellowship focused on developing research skills and producing a guided research project.
How is Project Q2 accessible when the programs are selective?
Our goal is to remove barriers to research thinking by making learning resources and opportunities widely available. Some intensive programs remain selective so we can provide meaningful mentorship and maintain quality, but our long-term mission is to expand access as our community grows.
